The Bleach Bypass Effect

You may have seen the bleach bypass effect many times in fashion or other media including movies. The effect gets its name from bypassing or skipping the bleach bath step of color film processing. By not bleaching out the film’s silver one ends up with an image with increased contrast and low saturation. So if we want to simulate this look with our digital images, just follow these simple steps: (1) duplicate your background image 2 times; (2) highlight the middle layer and go to Enhance>Adjust Color>Remove Color then lower this layer’s opacity to 80% as a starting point; (3) click on the top layer and change the blend mode to Soft Light. That’s it!
