YOU DON’T ALWAYS NEED HDR SOFTWARE
NOW, DON’T GET ME WRONG…I LOVE HDR IMAGES AND HAVE MORE THAN ONE HDR PROGRAM PLUS HDR PRO IN PHOTOSHOP CC AND CS5 EXTENDED. HOWEVER, WHAT I DO THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME IS TO EXPORT THE BRACKETED IMAGES FROM LIGHTROOM TO HDR PRO IN PHOTOSHOP THEN BACK TO LIGHTROOM AS A 32 BIT TIFF FILE. IF YOU’RE NEW TO THIS, YOU MUST HAVE LIGHTROOM 4.1 OR LATER AND PHOTOSHOP CS5 OR LATER. FOR THIS INTERIOR, A BRACKET OF 3 EXPOSURES (‘NORMAL’, +2 STOPS & -2STOPS) WAS MADE SO THAT I COULD CAPTURE DETAIL OUTSIDE THE TINTED WINDOWS, AS WELL AS THE WIDE RANGE OF INTERIOR AMBIENT LIGHT. ONCE RETURNED TO LIGHTROOM FROM MERGING IN HDR PRO, THE RESULTANT TIFF WAS SENT TO TOPAZ DETAIL3 FOR SOME ‘MICRO CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT’ AND ‘OVERALL DETAIL LIGHT’ ADJUSTMENTS THEN ON TO TOPAZ ADJUST 5 FOR SOME ADDED ‘DRAMA’. I COULD HAVE DONE TONE-MAPPING IN ONE OF THE HDR PROGRAMS, BUT THINK I HAVE CAPTURED THE AMBIANCE OF THE RESTAURANT ENVIRONMENT WITH THE ABOVE SIMPLE TECHNIQUE. KKEITH
