Yesterday’s blog was a study in contrast between the above image in its original state and a ‘slightly’ over-the-top retouched version. Here is a softer quick-fix iteration that you could present to a client; the lighting is still more dramatic, the hideous makeup improved and the lips altered considerably from the original—I’m not sure from that expression if the subject was going to cry or grinch at the photographer! She appears much more serene now.
P.S.: properly converted, this image makes a killer black and white portrait.

Wow, if you’re a professional photographer would you present the image on the left to your client? Flat, featureless lighting, awful makeup and a terrible expression…how much of this is your fault? Think about it! The retouched image is probably over-the-top for most applications, but is presented as an example of post-processing correction and enhancement. Not all of the original problems have been addressed here, it was a 30- minute quick-fix sample for this blog. Getting it right in-camera and pre-planning with your clients helps obviate the need for rescue retouching.
